11:26 pm - All of the pictures, none of the work.
So I've been a bum with LJ lately. This post won't change your mind. You see, the past weekend I went to the Monterey/ Carmel area with my lovely girlfriend. Normally such an excursion would result in a massive picture post with my life changing commentary. HOWEVER, Rachel beat me to the punch and put up her own post. It's like I don't have to do anything any more! This is what happens when you become an Associate Video Producer at IGN. It's all caviar and cocaine off the bare backs of premium hookers. MORE CAVIAR, HOOKERS!

Anyway, go here for post: http://opalphoenix.livejournal.com/6436.html

You'll also see my awesome hair. I'm totally joining Bollywood.

10:55 pm - Zombieland.
If my high school friends have gotten together and made a zombie movie, that movie would be Zombieland. Best movie of the summer by far.

And it's not even summer.

12:03 am - The Producers
Someday the craziness will settle down. Someday. In the meantime, the Halo thing that I've spent hours on went up. I didn't write this one, but all that footage was captured, labeled, and categorized by me. It was a pain in the ass.

http://xbox360.ign.com/dor/objects/852871/bungie-project-2/videos/halo_in5_spc_091809.html

(you don't have to watch it. I just want to get a few more clicks....they ensure that I can eat hehe)

Anyway, the most shocking thing about all of this is that they had credits at the end. What?? Credit for people's work??? What a concept!

Mine was particularly interesting because it had a title for me that I've never seen before: Media Producer. So I'm a producer now? Woo! Dunno if that's my official title now, but time to update the ol' resume.

12:04 am - Strange days
So I'm almost unpacked from the move. The past few weeks have been nonstop and I'm exhausted. Like, reeeeeally exhausted. This wasn't helped by the fact that I captured cutscenes from Halo 1, 2, and 3 for four and a half hours straight today. If you ever wondered, Halo has a a shitty-ass story.

Oh noes! They're going to fire a Halo ring! AGAIN!

Anyway, I'm really liking the new place despite awful luck about everything. Within 4 days of living here, I got my car towed. Yep, towed. Going up the street, I saw four signs that said it was ok to park there except on Fridays. It was Tuesday. Then I past a sign that said "Tow-away zone" by the bus stop. Of course, I wouldn't park at a bus stop- silly sign. So I parked further up and didn't see the NEXT sign that said "Tow Away zone 4pm-6pm". Yep, a two block radius of the street had a completely different set of rules. Imagine my surprise when I went to my car the next day and found it towed (or stolen....I didn't know at that point).

What followed was a hellish bunch of phone calls, bus rides, and car returns. And fees. It took $450 to get my car back. AWESOME. I'm going to go to court to try and get it lowered and plead "dumb, new resident syndrome."

Oh, and it also got towed on my birthday. Har har.

The next annoyance has to do with internet. I haven't been online in a while because I've been without net for a while. I would have net except the hallway where my room comes off of is a internet DEAD ZONE. It must be lined with fucking lead, painted with lead paint. And then sprayed with a spray. Of lead.

We've tried many different solutions. The router is a mere 40 feet away so we tried a signal booster. Nope. Then we tried a fancy N router. Nope. Then I cooked up a ghetto ass solution of using those newish devices that use your electrical circuitry (wall sockets) to transmit an internet signal. Then I connected a router to that to make my own wireless bubble. This kinda works....I get a fraction of the speed I'm paying for, but I do get to type bitchy LJ posts. Does anyone else have a better, less ghetto solution?

Anyway, I have yet to talk about living with people again or living in San Francisco. That's for another, less bitchy post hehe.

(and thanks for those who wished me a happy birthday)

Anyone else find it a little sad that these are CNN's most viewed stories right now?

04:29 pm - A few things (video game things) before bed
1) The PS3 Slim was announced for $299. I can finally replace the hulking corpse that I have! ...assuming my money reserves regenerate in a timely fashion (hah)

2) From what little I've played, Arkham Asylum is good fun. Fucking with inmates is hilarious.

3) Dissidia Final Fantasy owns my life (in a good way). Although every damn thing you do leads to an item creation of some type. What? You want to adjust the volume? ITEM CREATED!!

4) The early morning shift today was lovely but tonight's night shift will be even better. 12am-9am. woooo.

5) Ok. Sleep time.

09:36 pm - Why isn't this movie out yet?
http://www.dailymotion.com/swf/xa3gvd_the-imaginarium-of-doctor-parnassus_shortfilms&autoPlay=1&related=1

It looks like a spiritual sequel to Baron Munchausen. And it needs to be out now!

Ah well, at least District 9 is next week.

11:40 pm - And the most retarded movie of the year goes to...
G.I. JOE!!! WOOO!! (this post has no spoilers, btw)

Yeah. I saw a free screening of it and got my money's worth. That is to say that this movie was terrible garbage with cringe worthy dialog. I actually did cringe....like physically.

AND YET, it's not the worst movie I've seen this year- that honor still belongs to Terminator: Salvation. You see, Terminator: Salvation actually thought it was a good movie (the worst sin that a terrible movie can commit). G.I. Joe knows full well how retarded it is. So much so that it embraces it. To borrow a phrase from Tropic Thunder, it goes full retard.

And never looks back.

Unfortunately, I'm making the movie sound better than it is. It's still a giant mess and should only be watched heavily drunk or sedated. The action isn't very good but it DOES have a lot of the old vehicles from the toy line. It also convinced me that the Joes and Cobra are the most incompetent elite special forces ever. It's so fucking easy to infiltrate one of their bases. You basically put a hat on and BAM! INFILTRATION!

Also, for some reason everyone is related in this movie. I kept waiting for Zartan to be exposed as Duke's long lost alcoholic uncle. Maybe that's in the unrated DVD edition.

Also, Snake Eyes should not have lips. I'm sorry...it just bugged me.

Ok, good things....good things. Hmm, yes- there was a good fight. Of course it took place between Storm Shadow and Snake Eyes.....WHEN THEY WERE KIDS. Yep, grown up ninjas are lame-asses but their children counterparts have awesome choreography, intensity, and acting abilities. Good thing that they were in the movie for all of 6 minutes. They should just make a sequel called the GI Joe: Adventures of Chibi-Ninjas and have it star those kids.

Man, I've already forgotten everything that happened in the movie. Cobra Commander was pretty weak...especially since I didn't even know it was supposed to be him for 3/4ths of the movie. At least there was no mention of Cobra-la....shudder.

Annnnd...that's it. Movie is forgotten. If you want to watch something GI Joe related this weekend, watch this instead. It's one of the pinnacles of everything.

10:29 pm - Interest in Halo: ODST just upped by 3000%
First a new trailer.

Now, do you hear what I hear?

Why, Nathan Fillion, Adam Baldwin, and (quite possibly) Alan Tudyk. I'm just going to pretend that this is a prequel to Firefly and the world will be GOLDEN.

12:46 am - When robots rule the world.
So they're been a lot of movies about machines becoming sentient and trying to exterminate humans and shit like that. This desperate battle against an ageless/ceaseless enemy makes for compelling drama, but really- what the hell would robots do once they actually won?? Just hang out? Lots of standing around?

It would probably be something like this. )

For once, I want to see a movie about that....

should be in a Scooby Doo movie.

Of course, I also think that Voldemort looks like Patrick Stewart. )

Or maybe I'm just crazy....

07:43 pm - Random bits
1) I had a dream that I was forced to watch the "Top 100 Movies that Features Larry King." May such a marathon never exist.

2) Car battery died and the car needed some additional work that I couldn't put off. SO GLAD MY SATURDAY WAS SPENT DOING THIS. I almost gagged when I payed the bill (although I still got a deal.....sort of). Looks like I'll be waiting for a PS3 Slim to replace my dead PS3 after all- can't afford anything else right now. It is somewhat refreshing when some things are decided for me.

3) I cooked lamb last night and my apartment still smells like lamb. This is both awesome and horrible.

4) Bruno was amusing but forgettable- all of the best parts were pretty much in the trailer. Well....with the exception of the awesome Harrison Ford interview...

5) Please, District 9- don't suck. I need you to be good. http://movies.yahoo.com/summer-movies/district-9/1809961221/trailers/215

6) I want strawberry cheesecake yogurt. Yes, this is a very specific craving...maybe I'm pregnant.

7) Hope ya'all having a good weekend.

12:58 am - Sacramento Zoo (w/ pics)
So last weekend I went to the Sacramento Zoo with Rachel (surprise!). Yes, going to the zoo seems to be our thing- in a little over a year, we've been to the Sacramento, Oakland, and San Francisco Zoos. There are a few reasons for this:

1) We're zoo whores.
2) I'm trying to make other boyfriends look bad by endorsing numerous zoo trips (and judging from a number of my female friends, it is working)
3) Taking pictures of cute animals is a hobby of mine. I even played and loved Pokemon Snap for the Nintendo 64. THAT'S RIGHT, I LOVED IT.

But you're not reading this for my insightful commentary. MASSIVE NUMBER OF PICS after the break. )

Yeah, you better clean out your browser cache after that one, hehe. After the zoo, we went to Shakespare in the Park. Much Ado About Nothing - quite good despite that it was FREEZING. I love the fact that Shakespeare wrote staggering-genius-works like King Lear and fluffy-but-still-good things like Much Ado. Gives twerps like me hope.

But I think I'll start with the fluffy works first....

07:17 pm - A brief introduction to Mike's Law
I'm not sure what they teach in school these days, so there's a chance that you might have overlooked one of the pillars of cosmic design: Mike's Law. First discovered by Stephen Hawking's janitor in the early 1980s, Mike's Law states "Once an electronic device is fixed in Mike's life, another electronic device of equal or greater value will immediately destroy itself." This Law has no exceptions and is one of the constants of the Universe. Universe with a capital "U."

Ex. Mike's internet just got fixed. Yay, internet! However, now Mike's PS3 HAS IMPLODED!! Boo, implosion!

Fuck you, Mike's Law.

So yes, PS3 is now dead. RIP PS3. Seems like the graphics chip fried- I have the older and SUPER RARE 20 gig so I can't even get an exact replacement for it. This makes me sad. Well, also the fact that those things are fucking EXPENSIVE.

Guess I'll wait till E3 and see if Sony has a bundle or something.

WHY DID THIS HAVE TO HAPPEN BEFORE INFAMOUS CAME OUT???

In other news,

There will be a large wedding post coming up. Not my wedding, but Sarah and Jeff's (CONGRATS GUYS!!!). And wedding posts always have a million pictures and a story or two. And yes, Katrina....I'll give you all the pics.

11:19 am - Internet again!
I've been without internet since Wednesday or so. Had a few...lovely... conversations with Comcast to fix it-- rather not get into that now. Anyway, I feel like Rip van Winkle who's just woken up from his epic sleep- too much has happened in the past few days to catch up with. You kids with your internet and flying cars. I didn't even know that there were pics of the new Avatar movie!

Anyway some notables of last week/this week--

1) I was invited to Dolby Labs to see Advent Children Complete in their special internal theater. It was sweet. Amazingly enough, the movie actually KINDA MAKES SENSE NOW! 26 mins of added plot detail/ characterization will do that. Even more surprising is that Cloud is less of a douchebag. I know-- I wouldn't believe it too...even as I was watching it. Anyway, they gave me a copy of the movie on Blu-ray so if any SF peeps want to see it, drop me a line.

2) Terminator Salvation blew. It seriously was like a Sci-fi Channel Original. Bale was terrible in it and there was only one decent action scene. At least it had Anton Yelchin in it. Although now I keep expecting him to talk in his Chekov accent.

3) I''m playing host to a friend this weekend. Which means that I probably should get him out of the cupboard now (where else would he sleep during the night? The couch? Pah!)

Hope ya'all doing well.
